Guzman’s passion for the deaf community comes out of his own background. Being a deaf individual himself he has strong ties to the deaf and hard of hearing community. Guzman’s experiences dealing with deafness and his ability to triumph and be successful steams from the ability to have the proper tools to get educated.
Guzman is very fortunate to have been able to get a k-12 education and work on post grade school at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. Guzman views these successes from someone who was privileged and fortunate enough to be able to experience grade school and higher education. He is personable, kind and always with an ear to ear smile.
Guzman is also self-employed and works diligently on promoting the deaf community. His kindness and ties have made him a spokesperson for the deaf community and the ideal proponent to bring awareness to the community.
Of course it is of no surprise that Guzman’s personal story, and his deep rooted ties to the deaf community would bring him to Mexican Regional top selling artist Regulo Caro’s music video, Me Gustas, Me Gustas. Like faith, this was the stage in which Guzman could open up the minds and eyes of people in two worlds, the Mexican, Mexican-American, and Chicano/a communities.
Once Guzman had an opportunity to discuss the current situation in Mexico’s deaf community, Caro’s camp used the video to shine light on the lack of resources in Mexico, and to donate a portion of the views for the school IPAO in Mexicali, MX.
This is also the place he and Rubalcaba-Caro met. Bonding and becoming great friends quickly. They together strategized and planned ways to aid the school in Mexico.
This is why Guzman who is aware and conscious of other injustices, and other things that are affecting his own community in Los Angeles felt compelled to work on this cause.
There is no question that there are many other groups in need of assistance, but for Guzman who does come from that world, and can first hand describe his own obstacles, establishing this foundation is from his heart.
Guzman wants nothing but to give the community of Mexico the same opportunities he has been able to have. To raise concern over the lack of educational resources, and to leave his own hand print in the betterment of the deaf community in Mexico.
